CSA

What’s a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture, CSA for short, is a mutual relationship between a farmer and consumer. In simple terms it involves a consumer buying a membership, usually by paying up front for the entire season, in exchange for a weekly box of produce. This purchasing model is important for a farmer, so they have the overhead needed to purchase seeds and supplies for the whole season.

The farmer and member also share in the risks and rewards of the growing season. A growing season can be unpredictable, despite all of the planning and hard work put in by the farmer. Weather, pests, and a number of other reasons can change the plans for a weekly share, and members share in that risk. On the flip side, more likely, members reap the rewards of all the planning and hard work done by the farmer and enjoy an abundant and diverse weekly share.
